Today I learned that Maserati offered a base model QP up to 2011 that was so “base”...

Kinja'd!!!

It didn’t have seat heaters.

Seriously. I mean its totally a 1st world problem, but even if the base was only $90,000 new, it’s still a $90,000 car without seat heaters, something that is standard on $30,000 Chevy’s.

Yea, but it came with a Ferrari-designed V8, which is something your $30k Malibu did not.

My 11 year old Pontiac came with heated seats.

A damn Maserati should come with them.

They didn't come with my nearly 40k Silverado or my 70k+ corvette.

As well as Ferrari maintenance costs...

But the Mas is marketed as a luxury car...

Well, when the prancing horse goes up in smoke, those seats will probably get heated...

Because luxury isn’t all about features. It’s unnecessary quality of materials used and engineering.

I agree completely. But, I wanted to point out that there are a lot of Chevys out there for more than $30k that don't have them. That said, heated seats are amazing and are the single biggest feature that I miss going from my last Vette to this one.

These don’t self-immolate as frequently as Ferrari’s.

It sounds nice, but does not move the car in any sort of exciting way.

Are you kidding me ! My 2001 suburban even came with heated front seats. My S600 on the other hand...heated, cooled and massagers all the way around.

They're obviously not in the same league, but I think that the current 528i doesn't come with them either.

The rule of thumb should be: If it was a available in a Volvo 240, it should work better in something else.

Counterpoint: A significant portion of them will never leave Florida or Southern California, or otherwise be driven in temperatures below 60 degrees or so.

Thus, no real need for seat heaters.

I have them in my escape but never use them except the passenger side to keep my pizza warm on the way home. All they seem to do for me is make my back and butt sweat making for a pretty uncomfortable drive.

Maybe blame BMW for this trend? I’m not sure about now since I haven’t shopped for a BMW in a while, but remember when everything in a BMW was an option? This lead to a bunch of standard features becoming options instead.

I would so love if the “base” model Mas came with the V8, a T56 strapped to the back of it, a normal LSD, a normal exhaust and a normal HVAC to keep the comfy interior the right temp.
